AMED – Speaking about the 3rd Conference of the Kurdish Women’s Union Platform held in Amed (Diyarbakır), former MP Mülkiye Birtane said: “The greatest peace must first be achieved internally. This will be through diplomacy based on unity. Women will lead this diplomacy.”
Held on June 21–22 under the motto "Bi yekitiya jinên Kurd, ber bi yekitiya neteweyî ve" (“With the unity of Kurdish women, towards national unity”), the conference hosted four workshops.
Discussions focused on women's roles in language and culture, their place in building peace and democratic society, and methods to combat femicide and violence against women.
Mülkiye Birtane emphasized that the main agenda was Kurdish National Unity and peace: “Women have a vital role in peace… The conference once again revealed women’s support for this process.”
Highlighting the concept of the democratic family, she added: “If the family is not free, the society cannot be free. Women are fighting for freedom, but this transformation must be a joint struggle of women and men.”
She also addressed the issue of a consumption-based society, stating: “A productive society paves the way for a free and democratic one.”
Finally, Mülkiye Birtane pointed out that, despite setbacks in previous efforts, steps toward Kurdish unity are being taken again: “Women will lead this diplomacy. As we said before, peace is inherent in the nature of women. The greatest peace begins within and will be achieved through diplomacy based on unity.”
