MARDİN - An indictment was prepared against imprisoned Derik Municipality Co-Mayor Nalan Özaydın who was replaced with a trustee. The activities of Sarya Women's Cooperative which planted green beans had been a subject to the charges against Özaydın.
An indicment was prepared against the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Mazıdağı Municipality Co-Mayor Nalan Özaydın who was dismissed one day after being detained in Mardin on November 15, 2019. A trustee was appointed to replace her and later on November 26, Özaydın was arrested by the court with the accusation of 'being a member of an illegal organization'. The indictment against Özaydın was accepted by Mardin 2nd High Criminal Court.
In the indictment where Özaydın was accused of attending to the activities of her party, the activities of the women's collective the women in the city initiated, the Sarya Women's Cooperative had also been a subject to the charges. The indictment referred to the concepts of 'Assembly, commune, economy and cooperative' as 'KCK structuring'.
Co-Mayor Özaydın and 3 other women came together after the March 31 elections and initiated the Sarya Women's Cooperative. The cooperative planted green beans and sold the first harvest and the cooperative had spreaded to other villages. Following the arrest of the Co-Mayor, the activities of the collective ended.
