No one is allowed near the municipal building after Co- Mayor Hatice Çevik was taken into custody. Water cannons, armoured vehicles and scores of riot police deployed in front of the building. 

 

HDP Urfa MP Ayşe Sürücü and the party members wanted to enter the municipal building. Police removed the party members and Ayşe Sürücü from the area whilst battering them. Sürücü and municipal councilors started a sit in across the party building. Many citizens joined the sit in. Sürücü stated that the government is trying to usurp the municipality which was won with a vote rate of %59,36. 

 

Sürücü said: "This is tyranny. Our mayor was taken into custody unlawfully. This is thievery, pillagei extortion. Why are you holding elections pretending this is a democracy if you will just appoint trustees instead of the elected? You can't usurp the will of the people of Suruç. You can never do that. This people have never submitted to you and they never will."
