MERSİN - Erkan Demir, Head of Geological Engineers Mersin Branch, who stated that there is no audit in Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant under construction, said that the work is being done in a manner of a constrcutor, not an engineer.

Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant is under construction. Erkan Demir, the chairman of Mersin Branch of Geological Engineers and activist of the Anti-Nuclear Platform (NKP) affiliated to the Turkish Chamber of Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), who says there are two cracks in the power plant so far  considers this as a big disaster for the following years, said: “There is no auditting in the construction. The government will be responsible for anything bad happenning here."

Expressing that they have been trying to make their voices heard for years for the closure of the plant, Demir said that Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant, which is under construction, is not even made on an appropriate ground. Demir said: "With the data we have in hand, we have tried to present many scientific data with experts as it is not on appropriate ground and carries serious risks. But the officially appointed judges decided to go on with the construction phase of the plant without going to trial. This crack accident has been repeated twice. We've had requests for talks on this crack issue. We entered the area with TMMOB and its affiliated institutions and many different environmental groups, and requested a review, but we were rejected. We also brought the issue to Parliament. With this incident, we learned that there was a terrible lack of control. The construction of the Nuclear Power Plant, which presents huge dangers, is carried out by a contractor's style. This construction site is not being done with the mind of  an engineer, but with a style of a contractor. This will cause a disaster."

Demir who said there is a serious lack of controll, said the plant will %100 cause problems in the future. Demir said: "We could not communicate with the institutions responsible for this audit, if there are any. The security problem is 100 percent. We wanted to get information about the problem, but we could not. In short, the institutions responsible for this audit have completely closed their doors ”

Demir who stated that they have a responbibility to inform the public as NKP, and they will do their best to shut down the plant despite all this and inform the whole society and mobilize a public opinion and continue to stand against it. Demir made a call to the youth to mobilize and organize to protect their own future.
