ANKARA - IHD MYK Member Nuray Çalışkan who stated that after the hunger strikes being called off, prisoners are facing with problems like being examined and x-rayed while in handcuffs, said the inhumane practices must end.

Following the hunger strikes in prisons, many problems and violations of rights continue to occur in the treatment process of the prisoners. Nuray Çevirmen, a member of the Central Executive Committee of the Human Rights Association (IHD), drew attention to the violations in the prisons in Central Anatolia and the Black Sea Region.

Recalling that an important process has begun after hunger strikes, Çevirmen said that the right medical intervention is very important, especially for the prisoners to regain their health, but in practice they faced a different situation. Çevirmen said, prisoners are expected to be referred to the hospital first, but a very small number of them were referred to hospitals in the process.

'TREATMENTS SHOULD BE MADE IN THE HOSPITALS

Çevirmen who stated that most of the prisoners were sent back to prisons after simple tests, said: “But there are many problems in prisoners who were on long-term hunger strike. Intestinal problems, loss of vision, excessive weight loss, some hemorrhages have occurred. These are not problems that can be solved by staying in the hospital for one day. It is likely that different complications will occur after some time.”

Çevirmen said: "It is clear that the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Interrior and the Ministry of Justice did not make any preparations. Many hospitals and prison doctors do not know the algorithm of TTB. So in some prisons started directly with high-calorie food. Applications such as handcuffed examination, handcuffed blood collection and handcuffed x-ray are continuing. Many inmates due to the imposition of handcuffed examinations had to return to prison without treatment. Racist rhetoric developed against prisoners on hunger strikes in hospitals. Lack of adequate health personnel and bad practices of the gendarmes during the referrals occurred ”

Çevirmen who stated that the treatment in the hospitals is very important, said: "f the necessary supplements are not made before direct oral feeding, then problems and complications occur. SES, IHD and TTB are conducting the necessary negotiations. It is open to suggestions for the elimination of defects, but it is clear that there is no preparation. That is why there are many problems. ”
