2 years have passed since university student Kemal Kurkut was shot by the police and killed while he was trying to get to the Newroz Festival area on March 21, 2017 in Diyarbakır.After the incident, the governer of that term, Hüseyin Aksoy made a statement and said:  'The police intervened because he shouted that he had a bomb in his bag and a knife in his hand'. But Abdurrahman Gök, a Dihaber reporter have photographed the whole situation which disproved Governer Aksoy. Aksoy settled with saying that he is 'sorry'.

When the murder revealed itself with the photographs and there was no way to whitewash the police, the Governership allowed investigation about 72 police in scope of an investigation launched by Diyarbakır Chief Prosecutor's Office.  Police officers Y.Ş and O.M was taken under custody. While O.M was released from the prosecutor's office, Y.Ş who was referred to criminal Court of Peace where he was released with judicial control.

According to the indictment, police officer Y.Ş was charged with  "probable killing with intent to kill" with the request of life sentence. O.M was found not guilty because the bullets did not come out of  his gun.

CİHAN KURKUT: 'JUSTICE' IS SIDING WITH THE CRIMINAL

Kemal Kurkut's brother Cihan Kurkut said: "It's been 2 years since my brother is gone but our pain never eases. Because all the organs of the state have died together with our brother. The foundations that are meant to relieve us from our grief are siding with the criminal. That's why we keep living in this country and not feel safe. To us, the offender is everywhere because we do not trust any level of the law enforcement. We believe that justice will come sooner than later. Not only for Kemal, but also for Berkin, Ceylan and many others. Our only call is that the hatred and the bloodshed ends and peace come into leaf in these lands."
