NEWS CENTER - Stressing they take Abdullah Öcalan's call as a basis, "Therefore, we must lead and expand this call" said Cihan Celo, Co-chair of Shengal Autonomous Administration.

Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's "Call for Peace and Democratic Society", which was made public on February 27, had a great repercussion. After the call, the PKK declared a ceasefire. Despite the call, the Turkish state have not yet taken any concrete steps. Many groups made statements calling on the state to take steps.

Cihan Celo, Co-Chair of the Shengal Democratic Autonomous Assembly (MXDŞ), made evaluations on Abdullah Öcalan's historic call.

'NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO PROTECT THE YAZIDIS LIKE LEADER APO'

Stating that this historic call should be supported for all peoples and societies living in the Middle East to live together, Cihan Celo said, "As the Autonomous Administration and Yazidis, we embrace this process initiated by Leader Apo. Yazidis have always wanted peace and tranquility for other communities. Therefore, this step is indispensable for us. Leader Apo's ideas and philosophy saved us from edicts. For this reason, we support every step taken by Leader Apo and we will make every process he initiates indispensable. The main thing for us is to fulfill the requrements of the historic call."

Noting that Yazidi women support this historic call, Cihan Celo said, "We need to see this step taken by Leader Apo as the main work for ourselves. This step was welcomed with great excitement, hope and enthusiasm around the world. Leader Apo's message is especially important for women and Yazidi women took this message as a basis for themselves. With this historic step, Yazidi women will continue their struggle and resistance until Leader Apo is physically free. Because no one has fought for this society as much as Leader Apo.  For the first time in the history of Yazidis, women are taking part in politics and diplomacy. Thanks to Leader Apo's ideas and philosophy, they do not consider themselves inferior to men and do not submit."

Cihan Celo said that a democratic nation system was established in Shengal and for this reason it is under constant attack. “The Self-Government established in Shengal was built with the idea of democratic society. Under the roof of self-government, everyone can express themselves and exist in society.  For this reason, other communities and women are now taking their place in Shengal. On February 27th, we will continue our struggle based on the step taken. Shengal  will be an example for other communities and all those who want to achieve their legitimate rights. Every attack on Shengal is actually directed against the thoughts and philosophy of Leader Apo, which is being built here,” she said.

'OUR LIBERATION IS POSSIBLE WITH ÖCALAN'S FREEDOM'

Cihan Celo said, "In his defenses, Leader Apo says, 'Either the Yazidi community will protect its culture and faith, or it will face other genocides and edicts. For this reason, we know that the call is addressed to us and we approach it on this basis.  We need to unite ourselves around the call for renewal. The construction of a democratic society emphasized by Leader Apo was actually built by the Yazidis in Shengal. There have been serious changes and transformations here. Today, Yazidi women can raise their voices and defend their rights everywhere. For this reason, we must lead and expand this call. We need bigger steps to build a democratic society. Turkmens, Circassians, Yazidis and every community living in Iraq should heed and embrace this call."

Referring to the massacre of Alevis in Syria, Cihan Celo stressed: “The aim of the 3rd World War is to destroy the few remaining different societies and beliefs in Mesopotamia. Leader Apo also aims to prevent these genocides. In 2014, the same people who attacked the Yazidis for what reason are now committing the genocide of Alevis in Syria. The agreement signed between the SDF and the Syrian government is important and its content must be fulfilled. If it is realized, this massacre can be prevented. For this reason, the responsibility of the Yazidi community in this process is greater than anyone else. Our salvation and existence depends on the freedom of Leader Apo. We will do whatever it takes for his freedom. We will put up the necessary struggle for his call to fulfill its purpose."
