NEWS CENTRE - The mass gathering against the appointment of a trustee to Sêrt Municipality sent greeting to the ongoing resistance in Wan. A statement in support of the Wan resistance also made in Riha.

Abdullah Zeydan, Co-mayor of Wan (Van) Metropolitan Municipality, was sentenced to 3 years and 9 months in prison for "knowingly and willingly aiding a terrorist organization" and the attempt to appoint a trustee to the municipality was protested in Riha (Urfa) and Sêrt (Siirt).

SÊRT

In the statemtn organized every Friday against the appointment of  trustees to Sêrt Municipality, the resistance in Wan was supported. A large number of people attended the statement in front of the municipality building. Speaking at the statement, Sêrt Municipality Co-Mayor Mehmet Kaysi stated that the people of Wan resisted against the trustee policy and saluted the resistance.

DEM Party Sêrt Provincial Co-chair Eşref Tekin stated that the government could not digest the victory of the people of Wan in 14 and said, "The people of Wan have been showing a heart-warming resistance under the cold for 4 days. This resistance will bring victory again as it has done before. And this usurper mentality will be defeated again.  The government must be sincere in the process that started after the talks with Mr Abdullah Öcalan. We are with this process until the end.  Everyone should put their hands under the stone for an honourable peace to come."

The statement ended with the slogan "Bijî berxwedana Wanê (Long live resistance of Van)".

RIHA

In Riha, Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad-TJA) made a statement in front of DEM Party Provincial Organisation. DEM Party Riha MP Ömer Öcalan, Riha Peace Mothers Assembly members, Riha Labour and Democracy Platform components and many people attended the statement.

Speaking afterwards, Ömer Öcalan from DEM Party said that they have been fighting against unlawfulness for years and they will continue to do so. Ömer Öcalan said, "Trustee politics is the politics of liquidation. The government says 'let's solve it with politics', but it puts obstacles in front of those who do politics and punishes them. The AKP government must make its decision."

Ömer Öcalan pointed out that the Kurdish people have been resisting for a hundred years and added, "The people of Wan are resisting on the streets to protect their will and protest the trustee politics. Politics is not done with massacres and trustee appointments. Dozens of trustees have been appointed so far, but we have not given up the struggle. We will continue to defend radical democracy. The Kurds are standing up against intimidation and extermination and are waging their struggle. We will also persistently defend the solution and democracy. We send our greetings to the people of Wan from here. Democracy will win."

The statement ended with the slogan "Bijî berxedana Wanê" and applause.

In Sêwereg (Siverek) district, DEM Party, DBP and TJA made a statement at Lezgo Park. In the statement support was given to the Wan resistance.
