Father of ill prisoner of 26 years: I can't hear news form my son

İSTANBUL - Father Mehmet Emin Başaran, who stated that they have not heard any news for the last one week from his son İdris Başaran, an ill prisoner held in Bursa Prison, said the prison administration gives them no information regarding his son's situation.
 
İdris Başaran is an ill prisoner, also listed in Human Rights Association (İHD) ill-prisoners list, in Bursa Type H Closed Prison has been imprisoned for 26 years. His family said that they have not been able hear any news from Başaran. Because Başaran has various diseases, the family is concerned about his health. Saying that they had a phone call with his son last week, father Mehmet Emin Başaran stated that they could not hear from him since then and the prison administration shared no information with them regarding the health or well-being of their son.
 
'THE LIFE OF MY KID IS IN DANGER'
 
"Idris’s disease suddenly relapses on Tuesday. So they take him to the hospital. After brought back from the hospital, he is sent to a cell. This is what they told us," said the concerned father Başaran and added, "Nobody informed us that he was ill or hospitalized. Neither he called us, nor the lawyers can visit him. The prison administration gives us no information at all. We don't even know why my kid was taken to a hospital or what was his problem. My kid has been so ill for a long time and his life is in danger in prison." 
 
'WE WANT TO HEAR FROM HIM'
 
Father Başaran noted that his imprisoned son had been given a ban on visit for 3 months before coronavirus outbreak and after the outbreak an additional 3 months of no visit has been added, resulting that the family could not visit and see their son for 6 months. Başaran stated that they could learn it from the families of other prisoners when their son was taken to hospital. Stating that the friends staying in the same ward informed them on Tuesday, father Başaran said, “We are afraid that they will do something to our child. That is why we are so concerned about his condition. The prison administration has been already so tight on him. We are anxious, because his life is in danger. For this, we want to hear from our child as soon as possible." 
 
THE STORY OF İDRİS BAŞARAN
 
İdris Başaran is a Kurdish political prisoner and has been in prison since 1994, currently held in Bursa H-type prison, serving a life sentence. “Başaran’s medical condition means that COVID-19 would pose a risk to his life,” stated by the Human Rights Watch who have stated that the medical reports of Başaran reveal that among other medical conditions and a long history of repeated medical interventions, Başaran has asthma and a serious cardiac condition. Başaran also has epilepsy, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, familial Mediterranean fever, stomach and neck hernia and goiter. He has had a heart attack and has undergone angiography three times during the time in prison.
