Call to the Supreme Court as lawyers lose extreme weight on death fast

İSTANBUL - After visiting imprisoned lawyers Ebru Timtik and Aytaç Ünsal who have been have been on a death fast for more than 5 months with a demand of a fair trial, their colleagues stated that the health condition of the both lawyers is on the critical stage, called out to the Supreme Court of Turkey: "Give your decision immediately".
The two imprisoned lawyers, Ebru Timtik and Aytaç Ünsal from Progressive Lawyers Association (ÇHD) launched a hunger strike on 3 February 2020, in protest of the long jail time they have been sentenced to on charges of “membership of a terrorist organization”. On 5 April 2020, Ebru Timtik and Aytaç Ünsal turned their hunger strike into a ‘death fast’ with a demand of a "fair trial". Timtik's death fast action has reached to the 192th as Ünsal's death fast to the 161th day. Their lawyers, who visited them, shared new information and their concerns regarding the health status of Timtik and Ünsal.
Didem Ünsal is one of the lawyers who participated in the visit and she is the wife of Aytaç Ünsal. Didem Ünsal said that her client and her husband Ünsal lost so much weight that his weight dropped to 59 kilograms. Stating that Ünsal cannot drink hot or warm drinks because of his nausea, Didem Ünsal said, "As he sleeps during the night he has a problem breathing, he has a shortness of breath, but he has a strong belief that the resistance will win."
Lawyer Didem Ünsal said, "He said that the voice of every step taken, every slogan chanted, every article written, every song sang and all the actual resistances for solidarity with them reached their cells. He says that he is very happy when he sees these; he is proud of his friends and says that all that support gives them the strength, the morale and the hope. He stated that he is looking forward to the days when we all struggle shoulder by shoulder."
Sharing the information that their client has lost a great amount of weight and she has wounds in her mouth and throat, Ebru Timtik's lawyers said that Timtik has great difficulty in speaking and her weight dropped below 40 kilograms.
Lawyers stated that the health condition of Ebru Timtik and Aytaç Ünsal is on the critical stage, called out to the Supreme Court of Turkey: "Give your decision immediately".
