MARDİN - The Syriac candidate of the Green Left Party, George Aslan, who has been carrying the revolutionary flag he held against the September 12 junta in prison for 40 years, returned to the lands where he was exiled as a deputy to be the voice of the peoples.
George Aslan, one of the candidates nominated by the Greens Left Future Party (Green Left Party), which is preparing for the May 14 elections with the claim of bringing all the peoples of Turkey and Kurdistan to the Parliament, in Mardin, who had to go to Europe as an exile from Turkey 37 years ago due to his political activities. Syriac citizen, Aslan, who is from the rural neighborhood of Arbo in Nüsaybin, was arrested together with the September 12 military junta for his political activities and put in Mamak prison. After a short prison life, Aslan had to go to exile to Europe in 1986 when his prison sentence was finalized, and continued his political activities in the Assyrian-Syriac institutions in European cities. Aslan, who published a political magazine called Şimşo, published in 5 languages, including Syriac, together with Assyrian-Syriac institutions in Europe, also carried out activities in Kurdistani institutions in the Netherlands.
'WE ARE NOT BROKEN FROM THE COUNTRY AND THE POLITICS'
Aslan, who came to his hometown Mardin for the first time after 37 years after he had to go into exile to Europe, reminded that the first migrations of the Assyrians took place after the massacres in 1915, defined as the “Seyfo/Sword” against the Assyrians, and said that after the migrations that took place in the 1970s, they have been living in the near future. Aslan said: "The turns have begun. We did not break away from our lands and politics despite the calamities. When I first came here, I was expecting to see old Mardin, old Nusaybin, and my old village where I was born and grew up. When I first came, I went directly to the village where I was born. I could not find the same village where I was born and grew up. It really upset me. I wish I could see the fields where I play ball, I could see the streets. But instead I saw a modern European village. I was a little impressed with it. On my way to Midyad, I came across another city. When I went to Nüsaybin, I saw another city and I went to the Smuggler's Bazaar. Only that place hasn't changed."
'I WILL NOT FLOW THE FLAG'
Stating that his first promise was that he will be the voice of the peoples, Aslan said: "I have been in the revolutionary struggle for 40 years. I took the flag of the revolutionary struggle in my hands at 04:00 on the morning of September 12, 1980, while I was in prison, participating in the first resistance against the junta. Since that day, I have not dropped that flag from my hand. I will not let that flag fall from my hands for the rest of my life."
'FOR THE END OF THE FASCIST POWER'
Addressing the Assyrian people, Aslan said: "The only party that has given importance to peoples and colors since the establishment of the Republic is the party that comes from the People's Labor Party (HEP) tradition. The Green Left Party is a continuation of this tradition brought to parliament. My call to our people, go to the polls on May 14 and cast your vote for the Green Left. Vote for the Presidency, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, for the realization of change in Turkey and the end of this fascist administration.”
