MÊRDÎN - Stating that the state should fulfil its responsibility following Abdullah Öcalan's call, Emine Demirel said, "It is the parliament that will convince us. A commission should be established in the Parliament as soon as possible."
The echoes of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's "Call for Peace and Democratic Society", which was shared with the public on 27 February, continue. The PKK announced a ceasefire after the call, while Turkey continued its attacks. Announcing that hundreds of attacks were made, HPG stated that 2 of its members lost their lives in these attacks. The Peoples' Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party İmrlaı Delegation continues its various visits. The delegation last held a meeting with AKP Chair and Presiden Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
While the state has not yet taken any steps in this regard although nearly 2 months have passed since Abdullah Öcalan's call, the families of the symnbols of the Kurdish freedom struggle continue to call on the state to do so. Emine Demirel, the mother of Rahşan Demirel, who set her body on fire against the massacres in Cizîr (Cizre), Şirnex (Şırnak) and Nisêbîn (Nusaybin) during the Newroz celebrations in 1992, and Nalan Demirel, who lost her life in the clashes, called for steps to be taken.
Emphasising that the state is powerless between the economic crisis and imperialism and should find solutions to these problems with democratic steps, Emine Demirel stated that the process with Abdullah Öcalan's call should be carried out transparently in front of the eyes of the people.
"If this Republic is to democratise, it must take a democratic step. If a democratic society, democratic people, democratic republic is to be created, everything must be open. Kurds are ready for this. The leadership is ready and has all kinds of projects ready," she said.
'STEPS MUST BE TAKEN ON THE TRUTH'
Emine Demirel pointed out that it is important for the process to be based on a solid foundation and to be convincing and said, "The brotherhood of Kurds and Turks is now past. We have close to 10 million common grandchildren. We cannotimpose on these 10 million children to be Turkish of Kurdish. We wnat these 10 million to consent. Let them tolerate us. We want us to be able to go out on the streets together and tell each other. We expect the Turkish state to pave the way for this."
'COMMITTEE MUST BE ESTABLISHED IN PARLIAMENT'
Touching on the steps to be taken, Emine Demirel emphasised that it is important that everything is transparent and that the Parliament should step in. Emine Demirel added, "Whatever needs to be done under the roof of the Parliament must be done, then people can trust the process. While th prisons are full, while there is war in the mountains, while detentions continue on the streets, while there are chemical attacks, is it possible to accept? It is the parliament that will convince us."
