Asrin Law Office made a statement regarding the meeting of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is being held in isolation in İmralı Type F High Security Closed Prison, with Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Riha (Urfa) MP Ömer Öcalan. In the post made on the virtual media platform X, it was emphasized that Abdullah Öcalan's family and lawyer visits should be provided regularly in accordance with the law. 

 

'TALKS PAVE THE WAY FOR A SOLUTION'

 

The statement read as follows: “Our client Mr. Abdullah Öcalan and his nephew Mr. Ömer Öcalan held a meeting yesterday as part of a family visit. This visit, which took place 4 and a half years after the last family visit (March 3, 2020), should not be kept single and limited like the previous ones, and its continuity must be ensured. Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, Mr. Hamili Yıldırım, Mr. Ömer Hayri Konar Mr. Veysi Aktaş must be be provided with regular lawyer and family visits, as required by the constitution, law and international conventions. It is also a requirement of the constitution, law and international conventions that Mr. Öcalan, who has the theoretical and practical power to move the process from the ground of conflict and violence to the legal and political ground. Regular meetings with Mr. Öcalan will pave the way for the solution of political and social problems in Turkey and the region on the basis of dialogue, peace and democratic reconciliation.

 

VIOLATIONS MUST STOP

 

In this context, we reiterate the necessity to put an end to the systematic violations of rights in İmralı and to ensure the right to family and lawyer visits, which have been denied since August 7, 2019, in accordance with the law.”
