NEWS CENTER - Emphasising that the Turkish government is responsible for ensuring peace following Abdullah Öcalan's call, Zurich City Council member Yves Henz said, "Freedom of Abdullah Öcalan is necessity in order to reach peace and prosperity.”

A spectacular Newroz celebration was held in Amed on 21 March with the slogan "Rêbertiya Azad Civaka Demokratîk (Free Leader, Democratic Society)" and "Democratic Society for Freedom" with the participation of hundreds of thousands. While Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's "Call for Peace and Democratic Society" was the hallmark of the Newroz, hundreds of thousands demanded Abdullah Öcalan's freedom.

Many politicians, trade unionists and civil society organisations from France, Catalonia, Spain, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Kenya, Czechia, India, Egypt, Iran, Lebanon, Iraq, Libya, Tunisia and South Kurdistan were in Amed to watch the Newroz.

Zurich City Council Member Yves Henz, who travelled to Amed from Switzerland, evaluated Abdullah Öcalan's call to the Mezopotamya Agency (MA).

Henz said that he started to work as an activist for ecology and expressed his solidarity with the struggle for freedom and democracy of the peoples of the world, especially the Kurdish people. Henz stated that he learnt about the Kurdish movement and Abdullah Öcalan's ideology of "Democratic Modernity" after he met the Kurdish people who had to migrate to Switzerland due to the pressures of the Turkish government and said, "It is actually also my values, to fight for democracy, for liberation of women for ecology. I am really glad to fight with the Kurdish people and movement for democracy, liberation of women and ecology."

'KURDISH PEOPLE ARE READY FOR PEACE’

On the importance of Abdullah Öcalan's historic call, Henz said the following: "The Kurdish people are ready for peace, democracy and the freedom of the peoples. But now the Turkish state is responsible to maket his peace, giving the Kurdish people their freedom and ending this dictatorship over the Kurdish people."
Regarding Turkey's continued attacks despite the PKK's ceasefire, Henz stressed: "We think the Turkish state is acting brutal and heartless. This acts of war against the Kurdish people is not tolerable in any case."

'THE WEST MUST BE PART OF THE SOLUTION'

"Freedom of Abdullah Öcalan is necessity in order to reach peace and prosperity” Henz said and added, “The freedom of all peoples in the world is interconnected. Specially the West with its imperialist tradition and its support for the Turkish imperializm and fascism has to be part of the solution and has to make steps towards democratization in order for the region and all of the World to have peace, democracy and democratic modernity in the end."

Finally, Henz made the following call: "Let us work together for democracy, for the freedom of all women in the world, for the freedom of all people. We will succeed together."
