KONYA - Citizens participating in the Newroz celebration in Konya yesterday stated that the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan must be ensured for the process to move forward and emphasised that a democratic solution to the problem is possible through constitutional amendments.

Citizens who participated in the Newroz celebration in Konya yesterday said that the state must take steps for the process to move forward. Citizens noted that a democratic solution to the Kurdish issue can only be possible through legal arrangements. Devran Can Gürhan, who pointed to Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan as the address for peace, stated that they are behind Abdullah Öcalan's call and that the state must take steps. Stressing the massacres must end and an environment of peace must be established, Gürhan asked the state to provide this ground by taking legal steps and said, "Changes must be made in the Constitution."

Rahmi Aşan said that Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's call was a milestone and added: "As Kurds living in Anatolia, we want peace now. The milestone of war is long over, the state should take steps in response to this. The state must take a step because Mr Abdullah Öcalan has already taken a step and taken full responsibility for peace. The first step to be taken is the release of ill prisoners. At the same time, a new constitution must be made. We are already ready to take steps for peace."

'OUR ONLY WISH IS THE FREEDOM OF OUR LEADER'

Stating that one of the steps to be taken for the progress of the process is to ensure Abdullah Öcalan's physical freedom, Rabia Bulut said, "All we want is for our Leader to leave those four walls.  The state must now give us our rights, take steps for peace and release our political prisoners. Of course, especially our Leader."

'PEACE IS A NEED FOR TURKEY'

Sait Öden stated that Abdullah Öcalan has taken a step with his call that different peoples can live together and said, "We want this war that has been going on for 100 years to end. It is not only us Kurds who want peace, but all peoples. This is a good step for peace. The step taken by Devlet Bahçeli is also important. This is the first time something like this has happened after a long time. Our only wish is a life in peace. I hope the state is sincere in this matter, because peace is a need for Turkey."
