Nightlong protests: Police violence spotted

NEWS CENTER - Reactions against the arrest of IBB Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu continued in many cities throughout the night. While many people were detained, police violence was reflected on the cameras. 

Reactions against the detention and arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu were protested throughout last night. In many cities, especially in Istanbul, tens of thousands were on the streets last night. Republican Peoples Party (CHP) organised rally in Saraçhane yesterday. The police once again attacked the crowd with gas bombs, rubber bullets and water cannons. Many young people were beaten and detained. Police violence reflected on cameras.
 
ADANA
 
Thousands of people took to the streets in Adana. The marchers frequently chanted slogans such as "Government resign", "Erdoğan resign", "Rights, law, justice" and "United we will win".
 
After the march, the group who wanted to march on Turgut Özal Boulevard and Barajyolu Street were attacked with water cannons, rubber bullets and gas bombs. Police detained several people under beatings.
 
ANKARA
 
Imamoğlu's arrest was also protested in Ankara. The group gathered in Kızılay Güvenpark, shouting slogans and carrying banners and placards. The police intervened the group who wanted to march on Atatürk Boulevard. The police blockaded the entrance to Meşrutiyet Street and attacked the group with pepper spray and water cannons. Many people were beaten and detained.
 
RIZE
 
A large group gathered in front of CHP Provincial Directorate in Cumhuriyet Street in Rize and marched along Atatürk Street. The march ended at İsmail Kahraman Cultural Centre.
 
BURSA
 
The group gathered in Bursa National Garden and were subjected to police attack when they wanted to march. Many people were beaten and detained. CHP Bursa Provincial Chair Nihat Yeşiltaş was injured in his eye.
 
ANTALYA
 
Protests were also organised in Antalya in the evening. The mass gathered in Cumhuriyet Square under the leadership of Antalya Labour and Democracy Forces and marched after the protest there. The group came in front of Akdeniz University campus and was subjected to police attack. Protesters responded the police attack with fireworks.
 
Thousands of people in many other cities organised protests on the streets throughout the night.
