ADANA - "Kurdish people will see the freedom of Mr Abdullah Öcalan. We will gift this freedom to our mothers" said DBP Co-chair Keskin Bayındır in Adana Newroz.

Adana Newroz is being celebrated with great enthusiasm at Mimar Sinan Open Air-theater. People set out early in the morning and flowed to the area with the slogan “Bijî Serok Apo (Long live Leader Apo)”. Citizens entering the area with victory signs and chants frequently chanted “Bijî Serok Apo”, “Bê Serok jiyan nabe (Without Leader there is no life)”, “Bijî berxwedana zindanan (Long live resistance of dungeons)” and “Jin, jiyan, azadî (Woman, life, freedom)”

Citizens participating in the celebration in traditional clothes danced and waited for the celebration to start. In the celebration that started after a minute of silence, Organizing Committee Co-Chairs Şehristan Yiğit and Yaşar Demir greeted the people and congratulated them on their Newroz. Afterwards, Peace Mothers, DEM Party Co-Chair Tülay Hatimoğulları and DBP Co-Chair Bayındır lit the Newroz fire together. With the lighting of the fire, the number of people in the area increased even more.

Speaking on behalf of the Peace Mothers, Şemsa Bağdu emphasized that as mothers they want peace, not war. Murat Çepni, Co-Chair of the Socialist Party of the Oppressed (ESP), congratulated the people on Newroz and said “Bijî Newroz for peace, democracy and socialism”.

DBP Co-Chair Keskin Bayındır said that the Kurdish people have paid a great price since 1992. Bayındır emphasized that Öcalan's call opened the road to freedom. Reacting to the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, Bayındır said that this politics will not lead the government anywhere and added, “We know this usurpation of will well. For the third time trustees are being appointed to the will of the Kurdish people. We said at the beginning that this will not be limited to Kurdistan and today we have seen it happening in Turkey as well. Today we say that we will not accept the seizure of the will of the people of Istanbul. We will end this hypocritical politics with our struggle.”

Bayındır reacted to Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş calling party flags "rags" during Newroz in Kurdistan. Bayındır said: "If you are going to criticize the government, you will not do it over the values of the Kurdish people. No one should legitimize themselves by insulting Kurds and Kurdish values. We will not allow this. Next week is Eid al-Fitr. All the people of Kurdistan, especially in Adana, send Mansur Yavaş pictures of the children who were slaughtered during Newroz and protests and write 'fascist Mansur Yavaş' on the back. The Kurdish people will regain their freedom. The Kurdish people will see the freedom of Mr. Abdullah Öcalan. We will gift this freedom to our mothers. We will open the doors of all dungeons, especially of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan. We will fight for this. We have never bowed our heads even once and we will not bow."
