AMED - Reacting to the opinion given in the case regarding the murder of Tahir Elçi, Amed Bar Association stated that the assassination will not go unpunished and called for participation in the hearing of the case.

Amed Bar Association made a written statement regarding the opinion given by the prosecutor's office in the case regarding the murder of Tahir Elçi. In the statement made on the virtual media X account, it was said: "Tahir Elçi's assassination will not go unpunished."

In the statement, it was stated that Bar Association President Chair Tahir Elçi was murdered in front of the Four-Legged Minaret in Sur district of Amed on November 28, 2015, while dozens of cameras were recording. It was reminded that in the opinion submitted by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on 15 April 2014 in Elçi's case file at the Diyarbakır 10th High Criminal Court, a decision of acquittal was requested for the accused police officers.

In the statement, it was noted that an investigation into the murder of the Ambassador was initiated reluctantly and ineffectively from the first moment.

The following statements were included in the statement: "Although it was the subject of a lawsuit and trial at the Diyarbakır 10th High Criminal Court, the reluctant attitude towards shedding light on the assassination at the investigation stage continued during the prosecution process. The court's rejection of our demands regarding the collection of evidence to shed light on the assassination, and the prosecutor's opinion notified to us as of today; It has confirmed all our claims and opinions that there was no judicial or political will to shed light on the assassination from the first day. Amed Bar Association, Elçi family and all lawyer friends of Tahir Elçi will continue to wage an effective legal struggle against the trial process that is intended to be left without a perpetrator.

On this occasion, we invite all lawyer friends and human rights defenders to the Diyarbakır Courthouse for the verdict hearing, which will be held at the Diyarbakır 10th High Criminal Court on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at 10:00.”
