WAN - Families taking part in the Justice sit-in, which was held to support the hunger strikes initiated to demand the physical freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, called for "unity against isolation".

The rotating hunger strike action launched in prisons to end the "absolute isolation" and ensure the physical freedom of PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is held in İmralı Type F High Security Prison and has not been heard from for 33 months, has entered its 17th day. The Justice sit-in action, which was launched on December 4 under the leadership of Wan Detained Convict Families Solidarity Association (TUHAY-DER) in order to support the hunger strikes, continues. Families taking part in the ongoing protest at the Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Wan Provincial Organization building stated that the Imrali isolation system should be ended and that the path to social peace passes through Imrali.

'WE WILL CONTINUE RESISTANCE'

Filiz Uyar, mother of prisoner Metin Uyar, who is detained in Giresun Espiye Type L Prison and is in the second group of hunger strikers, stated that an intense isolation policy is implemented in prisons. Drawing attention that the problems will end with the end of the Imrali isolation, Uyar said: “We have never had a demand other than peace and justice. But there is no justice in the country. I am here not only for my son, but for all the prisoners. We are in resistance and we will continue to resist, all mothers. We want all our people, especially all the families of prisoners, to support the protests. Let's join hands and ensure freedom. Freedom cannot be achieved without unity and standing shoulder to shoulder. Only if unity is achieved, isolation will be broken."

CALL FOR UNITY AGAINST ISOLATION

Huriye Kaçan, the mother of Cafer Kaçan, who has been detained in Van High Security Prison for 9 years, stated that hunger strikes started due to the ongoing pressure in prisons and the aggravation of isolation. Underlining that the Kurdish people must ensure their unity against the isolation policies implemented, Kaçan said: "We condemn for not having heard from PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan for 33 months. We demand that the families and lawyers, which is the most natural right of all prisoners, have a meeting with the Leader. I want the isolation of the Leader to end and the people to achieve prosperity. Even though my son is the only child in the house, he should resist like the other prisoners, his life is not more valuable than anyone else's. Our people must achieve unity and lift the isolation. Our people should no longer remain silent in the face of these events and everyone should put their hands on their conscience. Everyone should support prisons and take action for a solution."

'THE KEY TO PEACE IS IN IMRALI'

Devlet Çiftçi, one of the women who paid a support visit to the families on duty, asked all the prisoner families, mothers and everyone with conscience living in Wan to participate in the protests and support the solution. Çiftçi said: “There must have been hundreds of people here today. There should have been no room left in the guard area. Conscientious mothers in Wan had to stand up against all these events. If we, as mothers, do not support this action, no one will. The heaviest burden falls on mothers, and everyone must fulfill this responsibility. We must liberate our leader by fighting together. The key to peace is in the hands of our leader in İmralı. If Leader Öcalan is liberated, peace and tranquility will be ensured. We need to join hands and lift this isolation. We will succeed together and win together. We will not achieve success unless we resist together."
