URFA - The resistance of the Şenyaşar family made the police take a step back in the "ban on sit-in in front of the courthouse" ; they have been staging sit-in for 17 days. The family sit-in continues in front of the courthouse.

The Justice Watch carried out by the Şenyaşar family has reached 535 days. The sit-in was launched on  March 9, 2021 by Emine Şenyaşar, who lost her husband and two sons as a result of the attack carried out by AKP MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız's bodyguards and relatives in the Suruç province of Urfa, on June 14, 2018. Emine Şenyaşar and her son came from their house in Suruç district to Urfa Courthouse early in the morning and started their sit-in in  front of the courthouse.

Since August 8, the mother and her son were prevented from sitting in the shaded area at the entrance of the courthouse, based on the governor's decision that "it is forbidden to hold protests in front of the public building". However, the family has been staging sit-in in the shaded area at the entrance of the courthouse for two days with a determined stance. When the police, who did not interfere with the family's residence, could not keep the family away from the courthouse, they started to prevent the press workers from taking pictures. The police claimed that it is forbidden to take pictures, citing the governor's ban on “demonstrations in front of the public building”. The police threatened the press workers to take "legal action" against them if they received a video.

'UNLAWFUL WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY'

The family made their daily press statement in the area called "Şenyaşar family justice corner", outside the courthouse. Speaking in a statement, Ferit Şenyaşar said: "During this sit-in, the Governor, Security Branch Manager, Provincial Police Chief changed. Today, the 4th Chief Public Prosecutor will take office. Everyone who comes is trying to force us away from the courthouse with the same method and pressure. The authorities are trying to force us away from the courthouse with the law enforcement force. In the last two days, this pressure has been lifted with our determination. Everyone who comes is taking a step back, understanding that we are determined. If Turkey is a state of law, we want the necessary action. At the beginning of the sit-in, we said that we will stage the sit-in until justice will prevail. Our demands are completely legal. 3 people were killed inside the state hospital. One of my brothers has been unlawfully held in a cell for 4 years. This lawlessness has gone down in history."
