NEWS CENTER – Iran has announced the execution of two political prisoners.

The Mizan News Agency reported that two political prisoners were executed at Qêzêlhêsar Prison in Karaj. According to the agency, the death sentences of Akbar Daneshvarkar (60) from Tehran and Seyyed Mohammad Taghavi (59) from Amol were secretly carried out at Qêzêlhêsar Prison in Kerec.

The politicians, who were arrested in 2023, had been sentenced to death on charges of “rebellion” through membership of the People’s Mujahedin Organisation. According to a report by the Mizan News Agency, the executed men faced serious charges including “participation in terrorist acts”, “manufacture of explosive materials”, “formation of illegal groups” and “collusion with duplicitous leaders to undermine national security”.

FOUR MORE DETAINEES IN THE SAME CASE

Four further political detainees—Poya Ghobadi Bistuni, Vahid Bani-Amariyan, Babak Alipour and Seyyed Abolhassan Montazer—are currently on trial in the same case as the executed Daneshvarkar and Taghavi. Iranian human rights organisations HENGAW and DADBAN have issued an appeal for awareness, stating that the four prisoners face the risk of execution.
