NEWS CENTER - A campaign has been launched for activist Hossein Salmanpour Zahir, who faces deportation to Iran despite the risk of execution.

Hossein Salmanpour Zahir was imprisoned in Iran for many years on political grounds. Zahir crossed into Turkey in November 2019. A case was later filed against Zahir, who lives in Yalova, on the grounds that he had “changed his residence without permission.”

The Sixth Administrative Litigation Chamber of the Bursa Regional Administrative Court, which closed the path for appeal, upheld the deportation order issued by the 1st Administrative Court of Bursa against Zahir. Held at the Kocaeli Removal Centre (GGM), Zahir now faces the constant risk of being sent back to Iran.

His family and activists have launched a campaign for Zahir, who would face the risk of execution if handed over to Iran.

As part of the campaign, the public has been asked to send emails to the Refugee Rights Centre at info@mhd.org.tr, demanding that the deportation decision be revoked.

Campaign organisers stressed that the deportation order could be stopped through solidarity and called for public support.
