İZMİR - The police did not allow women to march and detained 16 during yesterday's demonstrations.
Women who were detained during a demonstration in support of the İstanbul Convention in İzmir have been released.
In response to the public debates in pro-government circles on whether Turkey should abandon the convention on violence against women, demonstrations were in 16 cities yesterday (August 5).
Only in İzmir, women faced violent police response with 16 demonstrators being detained. One of them had a seizure while being taken into custody and was taken to the hospital.
