ANKARA - Women's organizations reacting to the execution arrangement said that they did not accept that sexual offenders being included in the remission.

The government prepared a draft of execution remission draft due to the Coronavirus (Covid- 19). While the political prisoners were excluded in the draft, drug dealers and those who committed sex crimes were included. The package suggests that the people who committed sex crimes to be released were decreased to 4/3 to 3/2, which leads to their release before they serve their sentence completely.

Reacting to the execution arrangement, Latife Kahya from Ankara Women's Platform stated that the Third Judicial Package was discriminatory and said: "This package aims to grant amnesty to those who committed crimes against women and children. We know how AKP sees the crimes against women and children. We witnessed them redeeming and acquitting rapers and women's murderers in the court rooms."

Reminding the allegations that the crimes against women and children will be out of scope when the draft law comes to the fore, Kahya said: "Now they want to release murderers of women, rapers using coronavirus as an excuse. We, the women, will not allow this."

Reminding that AKP is tried to bring a similar amnesty to the Parliament in November 2016, Berfu Şeker from Women's Human Rights-New Solutions Association said: "They strive to expand and cover all sexual assault crimes. While there are still political prisoners inside, there is no logical explanation of releasing sexual predetors to ensure public health."
