Gezi trial starts with attorney' pleads

İSTANBUL - The hearing of Gezi Protests consisting of 16 defendants 6 of which are fugitives and including businessman Osman Kavala started today in Silivri Prison Campus with the pleads of the attorneys. 

 
The hearing is being held at İstanbul 30rd High Criminal Court in Silivri Prison Campus.  People's Democratic Party (HDP) and Republican People's Party (CHP) deputies, human rights defenders, artists, intellectuals, journalists, foreign delegations and hundreds of people came to Silivri Prison in the early morning to monitor the hearing.Those who came to monitor the hearing passed through many search points. Many lawyers are present at the hearing for monitoring purposes.
 
 
During the hearing, Can Atalay, Yigit Aksakoglu, Cigdem Mater, Hakan Altinay, Mine Ozerden, Yigit Ali Ekmekci, Mucella Maker, Tayfun Kahraman were present.
Kavala was applauded by the audience when he was brought to the courtroom.
 
 
The trial began with the defense of the lawyers. The President of the Court said he wanted to end the two-day hearing today.
 
 
There are 746 complainants in the 657 page indicment. The complainants include President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and ministers of the 61st government. In the case, 16 people are also required to be imprisoned for various crimes separately from 606 to 2 thousand 970 years.
