NEWS CENTER - Osman Kavala, who was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment in the Gezi Trial, responded to Bahçeli's allegations of "He is a Soros supporter, a spy" against him by saying, "These are discourses that legitimize the application of enemy law in the judiciary and feed the perception of the enemy."

A response came from the imprisoned businessman Osman Kavala, whom MHP Chairperson Devlet Bahçeli targeted once again in his speech at the last group meeting by saying "He is a Soros supporter, a spy".

Kavala, who was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment in the Gezi Case and has been detained for 6 years, reacted to Bahçeli's words. Reminding that he was acquitted in the espionage-related trial, Kavala said about Bahçeli's discourses, "These are discourses that legitimize the application of enemy law in the judiciary and feed the perception of the enemy."

The statement of Kavala, who has been held in prison for 2 thousand 201 days, is as follows:

“The MHP Chairman said that I was a 'Soros supporter and a spy'. I have explained on various occasions before that my relationship with George Soros is no different from that of other board members of the Open Society Foundation. It is known that the espionage charge was created to keep me in prison after the first Gezi trial ended in acquittal. This outrageous accusation, which was clearly constructed in violation of our laws, was refuted and dropped. The political use of illegal allegations primarily harms our culture of democracy. These are discourses that legitimize the application of enemy law in the judiciary and feed the perception of the enemy."
