İSTANBUL- Contemporary Lawyers Association, which made a statement due to Lawyers' Day, announced that lawyers Ebru Timtik and Aytaç Ünsal, who were on an indefinite hunger strike, turned their strikes into death fast.

 

On a live broadcast due to April 5 the Lawyers' Day, Contemporary Lawyers Association (ÇHD) announced that the two lawyers among the four, who have been on hunger strike in different prisons, turned their hunger strike to death fast. ÇHD Vice President Ümit Büyükdağ announced the death fast decsion of the two imprisoned lawyers.

 

'2 LAWYER STARTED DEATH FAST'

 

Büyükdağ announced the two imprisoned lawyers' decision of turning their hunger strike into death fasts with the words, “At this stage, our colleagues who are members of our association lawyer Ebru Timtik and lawyer Aytaç Ünsal decided to turn their hunger strike protest into death fast. As ÇHD, we assume the duty of informing the public as there is no channel that they can share this situation with the public because of today's unique conditions. We are anxious, but also rather angry. Today, on the 5th of April, on lawyers' days, Ebru and Aytaç are on death fast!"

 

Emphasizing that they do not accept any celebration today, Büyükdağ said, “We remind all legal institutions that April 5 is a day of struggle! Our call to all sensitive members of the public opinion is to protect the demand for justice and to prevent deaths."

 

THE NUMBER OF HUNGER STRIKING LAWYERS HAD PREVIOUSLY DECREASED TO 4

 

The hunger strikes, which had been previously launched on February 3, 2020 with the participation of  8 lawyers, were turned into indefinite hunger strike reducing the number of hunger strikers to 4 on March 10. Lawyers Ebru Timtik, Barkın Timtik, Oya Aslan and Aytaç Ünsal have been continuing their hunger strike since then.
