NEWS CENTER – Miners and trade union officials protesting outside the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources have been detained. The Independent Miners’ Union announced that 110 miners had been detained.

Workers at Doruk Mining in the Mihalıççık district of Eskişehir launched a hunger strike in front of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources to demand the fulfilment of their claims, following a march they had initiated over unpaid wages and compensation.

Early this morning, the police attacked the protesters; 110 miners and officials from the Independent Miners’ Union were detained.

The statement posted on the Independent Miners’ Union’s social media account reads: “While we were waiting to be addressed at the Ministry of Energy, the response was to detain 110 of our colleagues. We are miners; we will not be deterred by detentions; we will continue from where we left off."

The statement also noted that a miner named Yaşar had fallen ill as a result of the police attack and was taken to hospital.
