At least four Kurdish political prisoners risk of execution in Iran

NEWS CENTER – In Iran, where Israel and the US continue their attacks, the regime is set to execute at least four of seven Kurdish political prisoners.

Whilst the US and Israel’s attacks on Iran continue, the Iranian regime is also proceeding with executions. The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KurdistanHRN) has announced that at least 4 of the 7 Kurdish political prisoners currently on trial before the Islamic Revolutionary Courts in Evin, Urmia, Senedec and Bukan prisons are facing the threat of execution.

KurdistanHRN reported that the death sentences handed down by the court against four of the seven political prisoners—including Pakshan Azizi, Hatem Ozdemir, Yusuf Ahmadi, Mehrab Abdullahzade, Nasser Bekerzadeh, Rauf Shikhmahrufi and Mohammad Faraji—have been upheld by the Supreme Court. However, it noted that it was not known which of the seven individuals were included on this list.

Families and Iranian activists have appealed to the public against this decision.

PRESSURE IN PRISONS HAS INCREASED

KurdistanHRN reported that since the start of the war, the regime has used the war as a pretext to tighten military control in prisons under the guise of “security” management, and that efforts are being made to increasingly cut off families’ contact with prisoners. Furthermore, KurdistanHRN noted that restrictions have been imposed on both telephone calls and visits by families and lawyers, adding that concerns regarding the detainees’ situation have grown even further.
