NEWS CENTER - The return of the second batch of displaced people from Afrin to their homes has been postponed, although a convoy had been scheduled to depart today, Thursday.

According to Hawar News Agency (ANHA), after the first batch of displaced people from Afrin arrived safely to their homes, preparations were underway for the return of the second group of displaced residents. In this context, the Afrin–Shahba Displaced Persons Council had previously told that the second batch would depart on Thursday, March 12.

However, in a follow-up communication with the council, it announced that the second batch will not depart tomorrow and that the departure toward Afrin has been postponed.

No new date has yet been set for the departure of the next group of displaced Afrin residents returning to their homes.

The first batch, which included around 3,000 individuals from 400 families, departed on March 9 from the city of Hasakah, passing through Raqqa, Tabqa, and Aleppo, before arriving in Afrin at dawn on March 10.

The convoy was escorted by Internal Security Forces, along with the Deputy Commander of the Internal Security Forces in Hasakah, Mahmoud Khalil, and Nesrin Abdullah, a commander in the Asayish forces, as well as other government officials responsible for this file.

The return of the displaced people comes as part of the implementation of the January 29 agreement signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian Interim Government.
