AMED – The “Hope and Freedom” rally has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions. Organizers stated that “our struggle against the attacks on Rojava and for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan will continue uninterrupted.”
The Democratic Institutions Platform issued a statement regarding the “Hope and Freedom” rally, which was scheduled to take place on January 25 at Amed (Diyarbakır) Train Station Square under the slogan “The freedom of the Leader is the freedom of Rojava,” demanding the physical freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
The statement was made at the Amed provincial headquarters of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party with the participation of platform members, and also addressed ongoing attacks in Syria by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), ISIS, and Turkey-backed groups.
The statement included the following remarks: “While these attacks continue, our decision to hold a rally—taken in the spirit of mobilization—has gained even greater meaning under the slogan ‘Mr. Öcalan’s freedom is our freedom; Mr. Öcalan’s freedom is the freedom of Rojava.’ Around this slogan, a comprehensive struggle has been carried out both against the attacks on Rojava and for the freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Considering the broad public participation, unfavorable weather conditions, and the safety of our people traveling from other provinces as well as the residents of Amed who would attend the rally, it has been decided—despite the strong determination of our people—to postpone the rally to a later date.”
The platform further stated: “From today onward, we will intensify solidarity with Rojava in all provinces, districts, and neighborhoods, standing alongside our people and continuing the struggle for freedom with determination. Our struggle against the attacks on Rojava and for the freedom of Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan will continue without interruption.”
