Ahmet Türk reacted to the arrest of 12 women activists 2020-05-25 20:13:15 MARDİN - "Our modesty is not due to that we are afraid, but we have respect for humanity. If they have not understood this till now, I tell them to take a look at the Amed Dungeon back in 80s", said Ahmet Türk, as he reacted to the the arrest of 12 women activists in Diyarbakır.   Ahmet Türk, the elected Co-Mayor of Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, where a trustee was appointed by the government later on,  was reacted to the arrest of 12 women out of 18 women in total, who were taken into custody iwthin the scope of the investigation against the Rosa Women's Association by Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.    Turk showed his reaction to the arrests via his social media post as he shared the photos of the arrested women he wrote: "The ones, who send the Kurd in prison during the Eid, who begrudge even a grave, should know that our modesty is not due to that we are afraid, but we have respect for humanity. If they have not understood this till now, I tell them to take a look at the Amed Dungeon* back in 80s. What I  fear is that they would not find someone to even shake their hands."   * Amed Dungeon: Amed, refers to the Kurdish name of Diyarbakır city. Amed (Diyarbakır) Dungeon refers to the Diyarbakır Prison of the time, when the prison facility was transferred to military administration and became a Martial Law Military Prison  after the September 12,1980 Coup d'Etat. It is known as the "dungeon" due to the acts of systematic torture and human right violations targeting the Kurdish activists and politicans during 1980s.
