'Free press is being banned while journalists getting arrested' 2020-04-09 11:15:25 ADANA - Stating that banning the free press in prisons with the new law proposal on executiıon is against the law, Adana Bar Association Prison Monitoring Commission Chair Tugay Bek said: "Free press is being banned while journalists getting arrested." In the draft law on execution prepared by the AKP and MHP, the opposition newspapers and publications will not be allowed to enter prisons with the regulation stating that “newspapers that do not have the right to publish official ads and advertisements through the Press Advertising Agency (BİK) cannot be accepted to the penal execution institution”. Reacting to this situation, President of Adana Bar Association Prison Monitoring Commission Lawyer Tugay Bek stated that the BİK is an administrative board but that it makes political decisions.   Bek pointed our that Press Advertising Agency has recently made some decisions preventing some newspapers from making official advertisements, said: "They want to silence the free press. Now the same institution is expected to decide on which newspapers to be allowed in prisons.  BİK is not a judicial body or a court. This restiction is against the law.Free press is being banned while journalists getting arrested. They want a system without an opposition."    MA / Hamdullah Kesen
