People in Cizre: People commit suicide due to poverty and despair 2020-02-20 11:16:01 ŞIRNAK- The citizens in Cizre, who evaluated the economic crisis, stated that they are longing for previous year with each new year and they asked: “People commit suicide due to poverty and despair. What will people do if there is no bread at home?" Rising prices in all kind of products in Turkey, instability in exchange rates and the increasing number of incidents of suicide reveal the impact of the economic crisis. While citizens coming to the market in Cizre district of Şırnak are worried about the stiff prices, tradesmen complain that the products remain in their hands.   Abdullah Özmen (51), one of the shopkeepers, stated that the poor were unable to buy anything, saying, “While 1 kg of the tomato was 4 lira, now it is 8 lira. When the customer hears this, he runs away. He puts his hand in his pocket and sees that there is no penny." Expressing that the recovery of the economy is possible with the prevalence of peace and democracy, Özmen said, "We do not demand anything other than peace."   'WE LONG FOR THE PREVIOS YEAR WITH EACH NEW YEAR'   On of the shopkeepers in the bazaaar, Abdurrahman Kurtay (50) drew attention to the rising prices by saying that the prices of his products have doubled and said,  "There is a deep economic crisis. It gets deeper day by day. We are longing for the previous year with each new year. The price of diesel flew high. That is why the prices of the products coming out of the field becomes stiff. There is no money in the pockets of the poor, the rich do not care." Stating that one of the reasons for the crisis was the evacuation of the villages, Kurtay said, “All the villages were evacuated and the people there came to the cities. Livestock farming in villages has been terminated. As there is no production, there began the crisis. There is a huge unemployment right now. People now commit suicide due to poverty and despair. What will people do if there is no bread at home?"
