With the call of the Education and Science Workers Union (Eğitim-Sen) İzmir branches affiliated to the Confederation of Public Workers' Unions (KESK) and some Alevi associations a demonstration had wanted to be held in 2015 with the demand for education in mother language, but the police had interfered in the demonstration and taken 90 people into custody. 'THIS SENTENCE IS FOR ALL THE DEMOCRATIC SEGMENTS OF SOCIETY' One of those, who was sentenced 5 months of prison is KESK İzmir Spokesman and Eğitim-Sen İzmir No.2 Branch Chair Hasan Ali Kılıç made the following statement regarding the sentence: "This decision has a legal ground. This sentence has only been given to increase the pressure on the democratic segments of the society. Mother language is our fundamental right. That day we wanted to go on a demonstration in order to defend the demands of all those, who wants the barriers against the education in mother language to be lifted, who wants to be educated in their own mother language and who want to survive their culture. However, even before we reach the demonstration zone, police took us into custody by torture. This trial, which was full of unlawfullness, is finally concluded. 90 people, including me, is sentenced to 5 months of prison."
