Verdict of Arrest for Imprisoned Former HDP Co-Chairs Yüksekdağ and Demirtaş 2019-09-21 11:00:29 ANKARA- A verdict of arrest has been given for imprisoned former HDP Co-Chairs Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ after they deposed as part of the investigation launched by Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office earlier today. The depositions of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) former Co-Chairs Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş were taken as part of an investigation launched by Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office today (September 20).   Currently behind bars, Yüksekdağ and Demirtaş deposed at the Penal Court of Peace on Duty. A three-lawyer limitation was imposed on them while their depositions were taken. Arrested in Edirne Type F Closed Prison, Demirtaş deposed via Audio and Visual Information System (SEGBİS).   Making his defense, Demirtaş said, "The verdict is evident anyway, but I will still say a few words for the record". After Demirtaş completed his statement of defense, Figen Yüksekdağ, who is held in Kandıra Prison in İzmit, also made her defense via SEGBİS system.   After the statements of defense of Demirtaş and Yüksekdağ were completed, a break was given before the verdict was announced. After the break, the court ruled that Demirtaş and Yüksekdağ shall be arrested.   Speaking to bianet about the verdict, lawyer Nuray Özdoğan has stated, "There is no new evidence, there is no new allegation. The only difference is that they were demanded to be penalized for 'enmity and hatred'. This time, their testimonies were taken on articles such as 'crimes against the security of the state' and 'causing damage to property'. They say, 'We forgot to take their depositions for that back then'. It is what happened."
