'If Hasankeyf is the history of humanity, Kaz Mountains are its lungs' 2019-08-10 10:19:21 İSTANBUL - Abduldakim Daş from İstanbul Hasankeyf Coordination stated that the destiny of Hasankeyf and Kaz Mountains are one and the same and a common struggle network should be established. Due to the construction of the Ilısu Dam, Hasankeyf is expected to be submerged with its 12-thousand-year history. With the ongoing project, Hasankeyf's historical heritage and the destruction of its nature has reached an advanced level. Abdulhakim Daş, a member of Istanbul Hasankeyf Coordination who stated that the intervention of the security forces in the actions initiated by the People's Democratic Party (HDP) Young Women and Youth Assembly is unaccepable, said: "What is happening in Hasankeyf and Kaz Mountains are done by the same hand. Therefore we need to establish a common struggle network. If Hasankeyf is the history of humanity, Kaz Mountains are its lungs."   Noting that Hasankeyf has not come up and claimed by the people as much as the Kaz Mountains, Daş said: “The reason why the struggle about Hasankeyf is not sufficient is related to the political conjuncture of the region. Although the state of emergency is over, it is still practiced in the region. That is why the sensitivity of the people to the Kaz Mountains does not occur here. Because people know when they do own the struggle and go to Hasankeyf, they will be taken under custody, beaten even arrested maybe."   Daş who stated that the destiny of Hasankeyf and Kaz Mountains are one and the same, said it is possible to combat the plundering of the environment if people unite. Daş said: "What is happening in Hasankeyf and Kaz Mountains are done by the same hand. Therefore we need to establish a common struggle network. If Hasankeyf is the history of humanity, Kaz Mountains are its lungs."   Stating that they will struggle more as the Istanbul Hasankeyf Coordination, Daş said that they will have a comprehensive activities with the participation of artists, intellectuals, activists and citizens in istanbul for Hasankeyf.
