'Raiding the wards has a negative effect on the hunger strikers' health' 2019-05-20 11:37:30 DÄ°YARBAKIR - Halis Yerlikaya, a member of the TTB Central Council, said the raids on the wards of the hunger strikers are jeopardizing the health of the hunger strikers in the crowded and unhealthy prison environment. As the hunger strikes and death fasts continues with demanded for the removal of Imrali isolation, the day-to-day raids on the wards in Diyarbakır D Type Prison revealed that the prisoners had been subjected to physical violence and that the radios, letters, books and study notes of the detainees were confiscated.Halis Yerlikaya, the Central Council Member of the Turkish Medical Association (TTB), who spoke to the Mesopotamian Agency (MA) on the subject, said that with the crowded and unhealthy prison environment, the pressures put the health of prisoners in danger.     Yerlikaya pointed out the unhealthy and crowded environment in which the detainees are being kept in, said the raids creates fear and anxiety for the prisoners effecting them physically and psychologically. Yerlikaya said: "As a result of the prolonged hunger strikes under prison conditions and the ward raids assessed together,it creates health problems for prisoners with weakened immune systems and put them in danger."
