Some of the sentences in 'Cumhuriyet Newspaper' case is approved 2019-02-19 11:03:38 İSTANBUL- Istanbul Regional Administrative Court approved the sentences given in the Cumhuriyet Newspaper case. The files of those who were sentenced to under 5 years was sent to the Supreme Court. In the case of the Cumhuriyet Newspaper, the Istanbul Regional Administrative Court, which had examined the objections of the sentences of up to 5 years, upheld the convictions of the Istanbul 27th High Criminal Court. Everyone except Kadri Gürsel who served 336 days and Bülent Utku who served 278 days will go back to prison.   Musa Kart, Hasan Kara and Mustafa Kemal Güngör  who was sentenced to 1 year and 16 days, and Emre İper  who were sentenced to 3 years 1 month and 15 days are likely to go back to prison as well.   In the case of Cumhuriyet newspaper, an appellate review of the names of those who have been sentenced to more than 5 years of imprisonment is held in the Supreme Court.   The appeals filed in the Supreme Court are: Hikmet Çetinkaya, Orhan Erinç, Akın Atalay, Murat Sabuncu, Aydın Engin, and Ahmet Şık.   The decision of the Cumhuriyet newspaper, which started on 24 October 2017 , was announced on 26 April 2018. Heavy sentences were given to the writers, illustrators, reporters and executives of Cumhuriyet Newspaper who were charged with 'To commit a crime against the constitutional order in the name of an illegal organization without being a member".
