PJA: The responisibilty will be immense if anything happens to Portakal

	İSTANBUL- Progressive Journalists Association President Can Güleryüzlü reacted to the words of President Erdoğan targeting Journalist Fatih Portakal, said: "The responisibilty will be immense if anything happens to Portakal".

	 

	AKP President and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan responded to the words of Fox Tv Prime-time Newscaster Fatih Portakal by saying 'Know your place or else!'

	 

	Progressive Journalists Association (PJA)President Can Güleryüzlü  and Journalists' Union of Turkey President (JUP) Gökhan Durmuş reacted that Portakal was pointed as a target.

	 

	Güleryüzlü who stated that the words of Erdoğan is not only disturbing but also pointing Portakal as a target, said: "We don't even want to think the possible results of this threat considering Erdoğan is the most authorized person in Turkey.He might be trying to engage in the politics by producing material through journalists for upcoming local elections. But the words uttered are both illegal and a violation of the freedom of expression. President Erdoğam must immediately take necessary precautions against the people taking his words as orders and cause a provocation . Otherwise, his responsibility will be immense if anything happens to Portakal or someonce close to him.

	 

	 

	JUP President Gökhan Durmuş, who stated that the fact that someone ruling a country threatening a journalist like that shows the safety concern of the journalists in Turkey is exorbitant, said: "If a person ruling a country targets journalists like this, the respect for journalism in that country is non existant. They want to create a kind of journalism that never is critical about politicians, wrong doings, economy..This is not journalism. Because the main duty of a journalist is to protect public interest, not to protect the politicians."

	 

	Durmuş also underlined that a president should never use that kind of language.
