DİSK Basın- İş: Yellow Press Card is not a licence for journalism

	NEWS DESK- DİSK-İş stating that the yellow press card (Given by the presidency) is not a licence for journalism and said: “Professional organizations must set principles together and form a commission. Press cards should be given by these commissions.

	 

	The procedures and principles regarding the press cards were published in the Official Gazette. An article was added that makes the  easier. The article dictates: “ Acting in violation of national security and public order or adopting such behavior.” The Press-Workers Union(DİSK Basın-İş)  of the Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions (DİSK) reacted to the decision.

	 

	The union issued an announcement under the title of “The yellow press card is not a journalistic license “.

	After the change of the regime, the Directorate General of Press and Information was connected to the Palace and therefore  connected to the Presidency ofcommunications. Yellow press cards will now be distributed by this presidency.

	Today (December 14, 2018) in the Official Gazette with the circular issued by President Erdoğan, the Yellow Press Card Regulation has also changed. The only thing we understand from the regulation is that only the journalists of the Palace will receive a yellow press card.

	For a long time, the atitude on  yellow press cards was arbitrarily. Many of our colleagues' cards were canceled arbitrarily. This arbitrariness will continue and will increase.

	As DİSK Basın-iş, we never saw the yellow press cards distributed by the government as journalistic licenses. 

	Our recommendation to journalists and professional organizations is that professional organizations should set principles together and form a commission. Press cards should be given by this commission. As DİSK Basın-İş, we will actively participate in the establishment of such a commission.
