'How shall we forget what this tree can't forget' 2018-12-14 12:00:02 ŞIRNAK- Father Selim Özkul who was searching his son who lost his life during the curfew in Cizre, came across with the body of his other son Star. Father Özkul shows the tree in their garden on the 3rd anniversary of the curfew and asks: "How can we forget what this tree can't?"   Özkul family still lives in the same neighborhood where his two sons died, and the same house filled with bullet holes despite the agony they go through losing their 2 sons. Their only solace is the family dog Max, that was found by a journalist during the curfew and borught to the city hall, soon turned out to be the brother's dog.   Father Özkul describes Max, who is a reminder of his sons as: 'He knows who to bark and who to bite. He never forgets the wrongdoers.'   Father Özkul looks at the tree in their yard. The tree that is wrapped with clothes in 3 places, just like a human wrapping their wounds, was the target of the bullets says Selim Özkul. The 'wounds' that are covered with mud under the wraps shows how brutal was all that went down in Cizre no matter how much time passes.   Özkul speaking with hardship, shows the wounds of the tree one by one. The fact that the tree bushes out every spring despite the bullet wounds, says father Özkul, reminds us of Mehmet Tunç who said: "We resisted, be proud!"   Father Özkul who caresses the tree like every person who had fallen back in the curfew, said: "The wounds of this tree havent gotten better despite the 3 years that have passed. This tree is wounded. Still wounded. It's shedding blood. It's not healing. What did this tree do to them? If this tree haven't got better in 3 years, how can we? We will never forget!"
