CİSST: Prisoners are taking turns serving time 2018-10-15 12:50:26 İSTANBUL- Berivan Korkut, CİSST Board Member, who draws attention to the violation of rights in prisons, said: "They are not being taken to the hospital. 30 people stays where there should  be 12. There are prisoners taking turns serving time.They are experiencing serious trouble accessing pshycologs, accessing their rights and accessing social activities."   According to the Ministry of Justice data, there are 246 thousand 426 prisoners in 449 prisons where the capacity is actually 211 thousand 274, by the date Sempetmber 15, 2018. That number exceeds  the capacity by 35 thousand 152 people.   Civil Society Assosiation in Penal System (CİSST) board member Berivan Korkut, stating that in the last 10 years the population in prisons exceeds the capacity which effects the living areas of the prisoners badly.   Korkut: "The prisoners have problems accessing the healthcare due to the exceeding capacity.They can not get to the hospitals for months. 30 prisoners stays where there should be 12.There are prisoners taking turns sleeping due to the lack of beds. In some prisons there are beds in front of the WC doors.They are experiencing serious trouble accessing pshycologs, accessing their rights and accessing social activities."   Korkut: " The problems in prisons can not be solved by solely through prisoner relatives or by the relevant associations. We are talking about tens of thousand people. These people are a part of our community.We need to take action together to solve these negations.
