Life imprisonment for D.D. who said to be 'reunited with family' 2025-03-06 09:27:49   MÊRDİN - D.D., who surrended to Turkey through "persuasion" after leaving the PKK, was sentenced to life imprisonment after being arrested.    It was revealed that another person who was brought to Turkey as a result of the pressure exerted on their families after leaving the PKK was arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment. D.D. left the PKK in 2020, 7 years later of his join. He started living in the Federated Kurdistan Region and married a woman who was a fugitive for political reasons. D.D. lost his wife in a work accident in 2021. D.D. wanted to bring his wife's body to Turkey and he was promised that he would be released if he surrendered and made us of the "effective remorse law".    D.D. then surrendered at the Habur Border Gate on 5 May 2021. The police, the gendarmerie and the National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) provided the press with information about D.D., whose name was not disclosed, claiming that "another terrorist who was persuaded was reunited with his family".   D.D. was arrested on the allegation of "terrorist organization membership" and released after 6 months. However, the investigations against D.D. continued. The "terrorist organization membership" investigation conducted by the Şırnak Chief Public Prosecutor's Office turned into a lawsuit. Seperate files were opened with new witness statements. In the indictment prepared as a result of merging the files, D.D. was charged with "terrorist organization membership", "disrupt the unity and territorial integrity of the state","intentional killing of a person due to public duty" and "homicidal attempt of a person due to public duty".   LIFE IMPRISONMENT   Şırnak 2nd High Criminal Court issued a verdict in November 2024. D.D. was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for "disrupt the unity and territorial integrity of the state". The sentence was converted to life imprisonment with a discount.    The aggravated life imprisonment sentence given on the charge of "homicidal attempt of a person due to public duty" was reduced to 12 years and 6 months with a discount.   MA / Ahmet Kanbal
