Most important step is freedom of Öcalan says Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar 2025-02-03 15:42:06   SÊRT - Speaking in Sêrt, DBP Co-Chair Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar emphasised that one of the most important step in the solution of the Kurdish issue is to ensure the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.    "Social Freedom and Peace Meetings" of Democratic Regions Party (DBP) and Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) continue. DEM Party held a meeting at Sêrt (Siirt) Provincial Organisation with the participation of DBP Co-Chair Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar. Speaking at the meeting attended by many people, DEM Party Sêrt Provincial Co-Chair Eşref Tekin drew attention to the talks on the Kurdish issue. Tekin called for participation in the rally to be held in Amed (Diyarbakır) on 8 February.   DBP Co-Chair Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar started her speech by reacting to the appointment of a trustee to Sêrt Municipality. Drawing attention to the discussions on the solution of the Kurdish issue, she pointed out that Kurds have not lived on an equal footing with other peoples for a hundred years. Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar said, "There were injustices experienced by all peoples, but the Kurds faced much deeper policies of persecution. One hundred years of Turkey was sacrificed to the monism of the state. This sacrificed century did not bring anything to the peoples of Turkey. We are on the threshold of a democratic solution to the Kurdish question, which has been ignored by the governments for a hundred years. The process that started with Devlet Bahçeli's outstretched hand has evolved into a new process with the visit to İmralı."   Stressing that PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan is still in prison Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar added, "One of the most important steps for the new period to reach a process is for Mr Öcalan to come out of Imrali, regain his freedom and discuss this process with his own party, organisation and people. Why is there an expectation only from Mr Öcalan? Why doesn't the state, which claims to have an intellect, take a step? There is an insistence on the Parliament. In the discussions in 2013-15, other political opponents were not included in this discussion. Now all parties should be involved in this process and there should be a road map for this process. But there is no substantive discussion anywhere."   Cigdem Kilicgun Ucar said, "We are talking about a discussion that will not be wasted on anyone, any power. We have come together to take responsibility as we enter a new century."   After the speech of Co-chair closed-door meeting took place.
