Concrete steps must be taken to solve the Kurdish issue says Lawyer Gülizar Tuncer 2025-01-15 09:32:12   ISTANBUL - Lawyer Gülizar Tuncer criticized the aggressive language of the government in the discussions on the "new process" and emphasized that concrete steps must be taken to solve the Kurdish issue.    Discussions on the solution of the Kurdish issue remain on the agenda. PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan, who is being held under heavy isolation conditions in İmralı Type F High Security Prison, held a meeting with the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) delegation in İmralı on December 28.    Abdullah Öcalan's messages regarding the solution are being discussed in the public opinion. Emphasizing the Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood in his message, Abdullah Öcalan called on all segments of society and emphasized the importance of making a positive contribution.    Contemporary Lawyers Association (ÇHD) member lawyer Gülizar Tuncer evaluated the discussions on the solution of the Kurdish issue.    Gülizar Tuncer stated that expectations and hopes were raised after the discussions on the new process and that the language used by the governments was insulting, threatening.    She said, "From the beginning, a relationship that was not between equals was carried out. The Kurdish people have suffered a lot so far. The effects of the war were very deep for the Kurds. Unsolved murders, disappearances, guerrillas who lost their lives... Let alone Bahçeli or Erdoğan, who represent the ruling wing, when Özgür Özel spoke, he only emphasized soldiers and soldiers' families. Therefore, only the state and their interests are taken as a basis here. In the following process, the trustee policy was carried out again and continued with harsh rhetoric and practices such as 'we will root them out'.”     'CONCRETE STEPS SUCH AS PHYSICAL FREEDOM MUST BE TAKEN'   Gülizar Tuncer emphasized that the isolation in İmralı “broken to some extent” and this şs important. Stressed that concrete steps such as the physical freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and political prisoners and an end to the trustee practices must be taken, Gülizar Tuncer pointed to Abdullah Öcalan's messages and said, “People are very unfamiliar with this issue. Therefore, these peace discussions need to be concretized and socialized. As Öcalan himself suggested, it needs to be discussed in the Parliament and spread to the society. It is also necessary to get rid of this negative language that will not benefit anyone. The process is lagging behind the past. A law was passed in 2015. There were practices such as securing those conducting the talks and informing the society to participate in this process. If there is to be a solution, the conditions need to be described in detail. In 2015, even if it ended negatively, there was a process in which everything was laid out clearly and it was given a legal basis. Now we are in a more backward position than before.”    Gülizar Tuncer pointed out that peace takes place between the warring parties and said, "If there is to be peace, it must first be between the warring parties. Then where is Kandil in this process? In the past, HDP delegations did not only go to İmralı as the interlocutor. They were also meeting with Qandil. What do they say as the warring party? Because they are the ones involved in the practice and what they say is very important and decisive. They were also meeting with them and conveying this to the public. There have been no such meetings yet. These talks will probably take place. These talks should be open and clear. In this sense, the demands of both sides should be clear."   MA / Ömer İbrahimoğlu
