Women fined for hanging posters of femicide victims

	ADANA - 2 members of the Adana Women's Council were fined 24,000 TL for hanging posters of women killed by men.

	Two women members of the Adana Women's Council affiliated to the We Will Stop Femicide Platform were fined for hanging photos of women killed by men on a bus stop and Atatürk Park on December 31, 2020. According to the Security Branch Directorate affiliated to the Adana Provincial Security Directorate, hanging posters in public places is punishable by fine within the scope of regulation. Each women were fined a 12 thousand 132 TL fine.

	 

	DECISION APPEALED

	 

	Protesting the fine, Adana Women's Council told that they were punished for drawing attention to femicide. Stating that they carried the decision to Adana Criminal Court of Peace, the Assembly said, "2 of our members were fined 12 thousand TL at the upper limit for hanging the posters of 4 women killed in one day on 31 December. We appealed to the decision. The struggle to stop the femicide is not a crime but an honour and an obligation. The four women on the posters would have been alive today if the Law no 6284 and İstanbul Convention were implemented. 300 women were killed by men in 2020 alone. Don't stop the women, stop the killers."
