'Prisoners are taken hostage with the new execution law' 2021-01-14 13:30:16   İZMİR - İHD İzmir Branch Chair Zafer İncin who stated that remorse law is being imposed on the prisoners on grounds of the new law on execution, said this regulation paves the way for the authorities to take the prisoners hostage.   Merve Nur İşleyici, Didar Bozan and Ceylan Bozkurt who have been held in İzmir Şakran Women's Closed Prison with the accusation of 'being a member of a terrorist organization' since 2016 were not released even though their sentence was over. The prison administration told them that they were'nt being released on grounds of the Regulation on Observation and Classification Centers and the Assessment of Convicts" law entered into force on January 1. Human Rights Association (IHD) Izmir Branch Head, Attorney Zafer İncin stated that the regulation will create serious grievances for political prisoners.   'RIGHTS OF THE PRISONERS ARE VIOLATED ARBITRARILY'   Stating that the warnings about the execution law enacted during the pandemic period to cover all prisoners were not taken into account, Attorney İncin said that the political prisoners suffered many violations of rights, especially about access to health during the pandemic and said: "The new regulation paves the way for arbitrary violations of rights. Prison administrators are trying to put pressure on prisoners by saying, "If you do accept the remorse law, you cannot be released. This is a serious violation of human rights."   THE REGULATION MUST BE WITHDRAWN   Stating that the lawyers of the prisoners will appeal the decision and will continue with the necessary legal processes, Attorney İncin emphasized that if the regulation is not withdrawn, the prisoners rights will be even more violated. İncin called on all democratic public opinion, especially lawyers, to be in solidarity so that the prisoners would not suffer in this process.
