Reason of the violations of rights at the border is 'impunity' 2020-08-11 11:44:53   VAN - Statign that the reason for the violations of rights at the border is 'impunity', the right defenders said that an investigation should be opened against the officers in case of possible violations and the state of war in the region should be ended.   İbrahim Baykara (46) died as a result of the fire opened by the soldiers in the Yukarı Çilli (Çîllî) neighborhood of the Çaldıran district in Van's Iran border. Rights violations, which have come to the fore once again with the death of Baykara, have recently increased. Lawyer Erhan Farmers and Human Rights Association (İHD) Van Branch President Murat Melet, a member of the Lawyers Association for Freedom (ÖHD), evaluated the reason for the increase in the violations.   Stating that Turkey does not investigate its own citizens' death as a result of the fire opened by Iran Erhan Çiftçiler said: "Turkey remains silent to Iran's violations of rights. According to international law Turkey, should send a diplomatic note to Iran. Another state's soldiers are killing and injuring Turkish citizens. By remaining silent, Turkey accepts this. We have to see that Turkey's government is staying silent while its Kurdish citizens are being killed at the borders. That boy Azat who was shot in Çaldıran was not a smuggler, he was a shepherd. And even though those people killed at the borders were smugglers, the law defines its crime and the punishment is not death. Therefore, Turkey is responsible for both sides. Legal work regarding this issue continues. It is clear that Turkey will be convicted in international courts."   Stating that many people were killed at the Turkey Iran border and many lost limbs, İHD Van Branch President Murat Melet said: "We see that especially the last 3 years, with the war in the region intensifying and the conflict in Turkey becoming permanent, people are being killed or getting injured at the border. It is clear that this is done by the soldiers of both Turkey and Iran. The border is becoming a death zone. The reason for this is the war and the conflict.   May 22: 1 person and 4 horses, who were stated to be Iranian citizens in the region between Burçakalan (Kera) and Hangedik (Xecixatun) districts of Çaldıran district, died as a result of the gunfire.   June 14: As a result of the fire opened by the soldiers in Kaşkol (Qaşqol) District of Başkale, a young man named Emrah Görür (20) lost his life and Saim Yılmaz was seriously injured.   July 16: A 15-year-old boy named Azat Bağa, who was grazing sheep in the Yukarı Çilli (Çiliya Jor) neighborhood of Çaldıran district, was seriously injured by the fire opened by the soldiers.    July 19: Khales Arsan (31) who came from Iran's Maku to Van's Çaldıran district, was taken into custody at the border police station and was battered by the police.    July 29: Three shepherds, Zahir Teker, Harun Akkaya and Lokman Koç, was battered by the soldiers in the Başkale district of Van.      August 4: İbrahim Baykara (46), father of 6 children was killed as a result of the fire opened by the soldiers in the Yukarı Çilli (Çîllî) District of Çaldıran district.
