Lawyers pass the police baricades, march to the parliament 2020-07-10 17:58:02   ANKARA - Lawyers protesting the "multiple bar association" bill in waiting outside Kuğulu Park march to the parliament to submit their petition for the withdrawal of the bill despite the police trying to block them. As bar heads from all around Turkey continue their sit-in at Kuğulu Park under police blockade, the lawyers arriving in Ankara from various cities have been blocked by the police to enter the park. After a whole day of waiting outside the police baricades surrounding Kuğulu Park with continous protesting and marches through the Tunalı Hilmi Avenue, lawyers initiated a march to the parliament. The petitions prepared by the joint decision of the heads of the 80 bar associations were distributed to lawyers by the bar heads. Speaking after lawyers signing the petition, Ankara Bar Association President Erinç Sağkan announced that they would submit their petitions to the parliament in person one by one. Sağkan noted that the march will be organized based on the physical distancing measures as they will walk lined up in human chain. The police, who blocked the lawyers in Tunalı Hilmi Avenue declared that he would not allow a march first. However, the lawyers insisted on their decision of march and the march has continued as the police blockage was overcome by resistance. The joint petition declares, "I request the withdrawal of Law Proposal for the Amendment of the Attorney's Act and Some Laws which was passed by the Justice Committee of The Grand National Assembly of Turkey and began to be discussed in the General Assembly."
